A Day in the Life of English Piano Music and Songs 1903 to 2012

This programme was rather more than just a compilation of English music covering lyrical, pastoral, witty, elegant and powerful writing for piano as both solo and accompanying instrument. The four sets of pieces by David Lancaster and David Power belong to the repertoire of a highly creative collaboration of York-based poets and composers known as The Sounds Lyrical Project. This was our first programme in Doncaster.

June 2015 Quarterly Concert Season Finale
Featured Carole Bromley as guest poet and the World Premiere Performance of Tim Brook’s Ghosts with Words by Rose Drew, Alan Gillott, Andy Humphry and Lizzi Linklater with solo Saxophone by Dr. Iain Harrison.
The concert included the World Premieres of Skylight by Peter Byrom-Smith, a setting of a poem by the headline poet, Carole Bromley.
Also featured were songs from the Sounds Lyrical Project Repertoire performed by Benjamin Lindley and Josephine Peach.
March 2015 Quarterly Concert
Featured Anthony Dunn as guest poet and the World Premiere Performance of David Power’s The Last Dragon with Words by Rose Drew, Alan Gillott, Andy Humphry and Lizzi Linklater
The concert included the World Premieres of Short Stay by David Lancaster, a setting of a poem by the headline poet, Anthony Dunn.
Also featuring music by John Cage, Philip Glass, Berlin-era and David Bowie at the York City Screen Basement Bar 8 PM Thursday 5th March.
The performers were David Pisaro and Emily Smith accompanied by Tim Brooks.

The concert included World Premieres of Repeat after Me by David Power, a setting of a poem by the headline poet, Tony Walsh, and I Can’t Get Away by Steve Crowther to words by Alan Gillott.
Also featuring music by Michael Nyman, Philip Glass, Berlin-era David Bowie and Brian Eno at the York City Screen Basement Bar 8 PM Thursday 11th December

This lunchtime event features readings of poems by Rose Drew, Alan Gillott, Andy Humphrey, Lizzi Linklater, with musical settings by David Power, David Lancaster, Tim Brooks and Peter Byrom-Smith. Some of the poems have been set to music and and are sung by David Pisaro accompanied by Tim Brooks.
